The couple involved in the Kuta policeman killing received their sentence today.
Seven months ago Australian woman Sara Conner and her British boyfriend David Taylor became involved in an altercation with a Bali Policeman that left the officer dead on world famous Kuta beach.
Today the forty 42 old woman from Byron Bay was charged with committing a fatal assault in company and sentenced to four years for her role in the death of the Bali police officer.
Connor who stood in silence as the sentence was delivered was watched in the courtroom by her brother who had flown from Italy and another friend who has been helping her since the beginning of her ordeal.
The mother of two had hoped the case would be thrown out so she could get back to Australia to see her children but she is now deciding if she should appeal the sentence.
David Taylor the man Sara was arrested with was charged with fatal group assault and he received a sentence of 6 years. The British national appeared relieved when he received his sentence earlier in the afternoon and his lawyers stated he will not appeal.
Wayan Sudarsa’s body was found face down in the sand on Kuta Beach with severe head, face and neck injuries last August in the early hours of the morning.
The doctor who performed an autopsy on his body testified that it would have taken him two hours to die from his wounds. And he stated that he could have been saved after the initial assault if he had received the pertinent medical attention.
Three Indonesian judges decided the sentence against Connor and Taylor and and they will spend their incarceration in the notorious Kerobokan Jail Bali.
The couple will be eligible for remissions for good behavior that are sometimes granted on major religious and national holidays throughout the year.
