The lawyer of a mentally ill man is claiming the police in Bali are going to examine her client’s mental health by holding back his medication and keeping him under observation.
Joshua James Baker (32) from Mt Isa in Queensland was arrested on October 8 at Bali airport by immigration officers. He was allegedly found with 28 grams of marijuana/tobacco mix and thirty seven Diazepam pills in his luggage.
His lawyer Miss Pande Putu Maya Arsant has said that police are going to strip away his medication and observe his reaction to being deprived to determine if he is faking mental illness.
The Australian escaped from the island’s police hospital where he had received medical checks on on the 11th of October. He was recaptured later hiding out in a Nusa Dua Hotel after his wanted picture was widely distributed across Bali.
Until now Joshua has been held in in a police cell while his lawyer fights to have the case dismissed on the grounds of mental illness. But according to her, he was taken to Sanglah Public Hospital so that police could halt the supply of his psychiatric medication.
His lawyer says she is worried that Joshua will become a danger to himself and to others if they continue with their investigation procedure.
Miss Arsant has also claimed she was not informed her client was being moved . She says she learned about the inexplicable experiment after a phone call from an unnamed source.
