When Adeline was eighteen she fell in love with a twenty six year old horse strapper named Fredrick Shepard. The couple were married a year later on the 25th of April 1906 by a Benedictine Monk who had taught and raised Fred at the stunning New Norcia Monastery.

Fredrick Shepard had been delivered to the orphanage in New Norcia after being taken from his mother. Local authorities had seized the baby from an aboriginal woman named Josephine because he was considered too white and a ‘half caste’ child.

Unfortunately for Adeline and Fredrick men of First Australian heratage  did not marry young and wealthy Caucasian Women from powerful families during the nineteen hundreds .

Adeline  was the daughter of a settler family from New Norcia and her wealthy father Joseph John Ferguson refused to allow her to tarnish her family name.

With the help of his foreman Patrick John Thompson (Paddy Thompson) who also happened to be in love with his daughter. He determined to force her back home and to marry her off to a suitable person.

The young couple were forced to flee into the Kimberly Region of Western Australia. Then in an attempt to build a new life, Fred found employment as a stockman and Adeline as a governess to a station owner’s children.

The newly wed couple encountered extreme racism in their new environment but it became exacerbated when Paddy Thompson arrived to take Adeline back to her father.

Unfortunately Fred Shepard would die in a suspicious horse riding accident and he would leave his new wife alone with a mixed race female infant child.

She would also be heavily pregnant with another baby and both their names would later be erased from Western Australian birth records by Adeline’s father.

Adeline would then be returned to her father’s property in New Norcia and Paddy Thompson would agree to marry the young woman and raise her children in exchange for a plot of her fathers land.

Please note: Adeline is a work in progress but the screenplay will be completed soon.
